The PTA team would like to thank all the parents for making our events in 2012 so successful. We have raised lots of money which will, as usual, be spent on ALL of our children to make Hodnet School a great place to learn in and for our teachers to teach in. I think the highlight of the year had to be the Bonfire Night; I am still getting parents saying how good it was. Plans are already starting for next years Summer Fair so if anybody wants to be part of the PTA team of planners, come along to our new meeting place at Pre School. We will send a text out the week before the meetings so you are aware of when they are happening. I also think it is important we as Parents /PTA say a big thank you to Mrs Gardner and her team of teachers, teaching assistants, dinner ladies and cleaners and everybody else who helps us make our events possible. We have not got a final figure for Christmas Fair but we are looking at around £600 profit so another great result in such difficult economic times. Thank you once again.
We have been very proud of all of our KS1 children this week after a fantastic performance in the nativity play. Huge thanks to all of you for your support with this and I hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. Also, big thanks for supporting our charity this term; more than £120 was donated in the collections which will be sent to Severn Hospice.
Just to remind you all that you are all very welcome at the Carol Service in the church tomorrow. The service is due to start at 2pm and children will need collecting from the church at 3pm, unless they are on the bus or you have already let us know that you would like them returned to school. Originally we asked for oranges to be brought in for the children to make their own Christingle. Sainsburys have kindly donated 166 oranges to school for us to use which we are very grateful for. School has provided all of the other ingredients needed.
On Friday 21st December, we will be planning Christmas parties for all of the children. They are allowed to come in non-uniform rather than bringing in clothes to change into. Hopefully you have all received a copy of the letter asking for crisps, cakes/biscuits or savoury snacks to be brought in on the day of the party.
Clubs & Music Lessons
The clubs for next term are filling up so please get your forms in as soon as possible. Please ensure that any payments for clubs and music lessons from this current term should be paid before the end of the week as we have to bank and balance the books. Any payments for next term can be sent in the form of a post dated cheque, or should be sent in during the first week.
Following a child protection update, all staff have been reminded that the policy strongly discourages them from having parents and children as ‘friends’ on Facebook. This is to ensure that people are not put in uncomfortable positions relating to their private life. Please do not be offended if you are removed. This is LA advice which is being followed to ensure the safety of all staff and children at Hodnet School.
The children and staff thoroughly enjoyed the pantomime this year. Thanks for your help in supporting this. Thanks also to the PTA for paying for ice-creams and contributing towards the cost of the coaches.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your support this term, although it has been a long one, it has gone very quickly. The children have had a great term and are making good progress. Staff continue to receive great feedback regarding the behaviour and attitude of our children when they go on school visits. At a time when everybody is feeling the effects of the economic problems, we are always well supported in our charity donations and PTA events.
On behalf of the staff and Governing body, I would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
