On Thursday 21st May, the FoH will be holding a Bingo/Beetle Drive for children and parents. A letter will be coming out shortly for you to book a place and with further information. It will run from 3.30-5pm and will cost £3 per child, this will include drinks and snacks.
Plans are being made for our annual summer fayre, being held on Friday 3rd July. More details will follow but please keep the evening free to ensure that the children can take part in their summer dance at the start of the evening and then join in with the lovely activities on offer. If you have any ideas or would be able to help on the night in any way- setting up, behind a stall or tidying up, please let Jess Onions know.
Parent’s Healthy Lunchbox Workshop
Just a reminder that Tracy Hicks will be running a Healthy Lunchbox session in school on Monday 18th May. Fliers have been sent out to book onto this but please contact the school if you have missed it. Ideas will be shared about how to provide healthy alternatives for children who have packed lunches to ensure they have a good balanced diet. So far we have only had one parent respond so the session will have to be cancelled. It can only go ahead with 5 parents so if you are interested, please let us know asap.
As part of the national celebration to remember VE day 1945, the children will all get to be involved in activities at different stages of the day on Friday 8th May. Reception children have been encouraged to come dressed up and KS1 will enjoy a street party in Golden Time, having opportunities to make sandwiches, hats etc during the day. KS2 classes will also be thinking about what VE day meant and how it was celebrated. They will also join KS1 for a street party in the afternoon. We will all be coming together for a 2 minute silence at 3pm as a mark of respect.
KS1 & KS2 SATs
All children in Year 2 and Year 6 will be completing their Statutory Assessments next week. Year 2 will be completing theirs over a few weeks and have actually started them this week. Year 6 will have to follow a national timetable, with all children across the country sitting their tests at the same time. There is no flexibility with this so please ensure that the children are in school on time and have a good nights sleep beforehand to enable them to do their very best.
Maths Workshop- 12th May
You should all have received a letter this week about a parent workshop which is taking place on Tuesday 12th May. This will help to give ideas about how you can support your child at home and give some practical things for you to try. There is not an expectation that you will be doing maths on the evening and we are offering a crèche for people who book in. Please fill in the slip and return asap.
Class 5 & 6 Visit
On Monday 27th April Classes 5 and 6 went on a trip to Shrewsbury Wildlife Trust and Museum. Whilst Class 5 were at the Wildlife Trust, we did a bug hunt where you had to catch bugs and identify them and then observe the similarities. At the museum there were lots of activities to do like looking at trilobite fossils and looking at a real monkey skull. Class 5 also looked at the Geology gallery and rare birds beaks and then we had to draw them. We also learned about Charles Darwin’s childhood. I think that families would really enjoy visiting the places we’ve been to.

Willow Tunnel Workshop
Yesterday, our school ECO Warriors were very lucky and spent parts of the day working with… to plant, build & weave a living willow tunnel. This has been sited near our wildlife area and will be part of the ongoing project this term. They had a great time and we all look forward to watching the willow grow.
Wimbledon Tickets & Day
Just a reminder that if you are interested in taking part in the ballot for the tickets for either the Court 1 tickets or the pair of Centre Court tickets, please send the slip from the letter back by 20th May.
We will also be holding our own Wimbledon Day on 22nd May and the children can come into school in PE/sports kits, play tennis and enjoy strawberries and cream. We are asking for a 50p donation for wearing non-uniform and will be selling strawberries at 3pm to raise funds for new tennis equipment for school.
