Friends of Hodnet School Facebook page going live which will provide information for upcoming events.
We raised in the region of £1200 from Bonfire night. It was a fun night and thank you to the sponsors and helpers.
We are still waiting for the report from our inspection last week but wanted to let you all know that the inspectors were very complimentary about the attitudes and behaviour of the children throughout the two days they were here. We are very proud of them. Thanks for all of the kind words of support we received, they really did help.
Just a reminder that any photograph orders need to be back by Friday 6th December at the latest. Any late returns will not be guaranteed for Christmas and will need to be posted by you. Academy photography has guaranteed the photographs will be returned to school before we break up for Christmas if they are sent in before the closing date.
Children In Need
Thank you for your support with Children In Need day. The children looked great and really enjoyed the opportunity to dress up as a hero. We managed to raise £300 for the great charity.
Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Appeal
The shoeboxes have been collected and this year we sent 27 boxes in total which is an increase on last year. I know that many of us are feeling the pinch financially with the current climate, but it was good to see people going out of their way to help others.
As you are aware, Christmas is catching up with us rapidly. Class R, 1 & 2 are busy preparing for their production of Long Ago and Far Away. Your child should have had some information regarding their part and any costume they may need. In the next couple of days you should receive a letter and tickets for the performances. Please note that we do have to restrict numbers due to fire regulations.
Letters have also come out regarding Christmas Lunch- please note that you only need to return the slip if you DO NOT want Christmas lunch. The food will be ordered for this on Monday so please ensure all slips are back by tomorrow if your child does not want a dinner.
Beech House singing and the church carol service letters will be out next week, please look out for them.
Visits and Visitors
We have had a very busy week with this: Class 3 & 4 were entertained on Monday by King Henry V111, thanks to a donation from Weston and Whixhall Trust. This was a brilliant opportunity for them to develop their knowledge of the Tudor period through drama and crafts. Class 1 & 2 spent a very enjoyable day at Enginuity, Ironbridge on Tuesday doing activities related to their science topic on Electricity. As I am writing this letter, Class 5 & 6 are at Cardingmill Valley carrying out a river study and looking at the effects of the weather on the landscape. Thanks go out to you for supporting these visits, as well as FoH for their contributions to trips which helps to keep the costs as low as possible. The children do gain a massive amount from these visits which we can’t always provide in school.
Can I please remind you all of the legal requirement to inform us of any absence before 9.30 am on the first day. Any absences that are not reported are recorded as unauthorised- a letter the following week is not acceptable for us to authorise. The LA Educational Welfare Officer attends school every half term and checks all attendance figures. She will be contacting parents if there are unauthorised absences.
I am also still receiving many requests for holidays which I am not allowed to authorise, unless in very exceptional circumstances. Please expect for these to be unauthorised and to be passed onto the Welfare Team. This has been taken out of my hands by the government.
