The AGM was held recently and it was fantastic to see new faces. Jessica Onions was voted in as the Chairperson for this year, Vicki Cadwell remains as Secretary, Russell Taylor & Brid Bickerton will be Treasurers and Louise Morris will be responsible for advertising & media.
A meeting will be held at 7.30pm on Monday in the Pre-School building where we will begin to assign tasks for the Bonfire Celebration. Work will also start soon on the pond/wildlife area- if any parent could offer any support with ideas or manpower, please let school or Russell Taylor know.
The new school website has been updated with all of the new forms, letters, dates and information you may need throughout the term. Photographs have just arrived and will be put onto the website in the next week.
The address is: www.hodnetschool.com
Please take time to look at it and let me know if you think it is useful.
Ofsted & Parent View
Ofsted like to see the views of parents and make use of them during an inspection. In previous years, a paper questionnaire has been sent out on the first day of an inspection and these have been read by the inspector. This no longer happens and Ofsted request that we encourage parents to access the Parent View website and complete the questionnaire on there. As we are expecting an inspection, I would like to ask parents to share their views in this way so that Ofsted have further information to judge the school on. There is a direct link on our website on the Ofsted page. I will also make laptops available on Parents Evening should anybody need to access them.
As we have all noticed today, the colder weather is upon us. There are many children who are coming to school without school jumpers and coats so are very cold during playtime. Please ensure your child has a named coat and school jumper everyday.
Curriculum Week- Enterprise w/c 21/10/13
Our curriculum week this term is focussing on Business and Enterprise. The children will all have the opportunity to design, plan and make something which they can sell. We are looking at ways to put the maths and English children learn into real life situations- costing materials, setting prices, making profits, designing packaging, making adverts and posters and selling. These are all real skills that the children will use in their adult lives. We are hoping that there are parents or family members who may be involved in running their own small businesses or work within this sector, who would be willing to come in and talk to the children about their experience. This could be to a class or small groups or even as part of an assembly. The week will culminate in a market on Friday morning between 9.15-10.15 where the children will be selling their goods and giving you the chance to look at the work they have done over the week. Such events always work well when parents can support- please let us know if you feel you can help in any way at all.
Parents Evening- 23/10/13
You have all received a letter regarding this and should have returned slips requesting times by Monday 14th October. The staff will meet to arrange the appointments, ensuring that you have time in between seeing different teachers. Slips will come home by the end of next week with your appointment time. Times will be given to parents who have not replied, please contact the school if these are not convenient. I look forward to seeing you all on the evening.
